Dr. Beckmann’s Commitment to Sustainability

For us, sustainable action goes hand in hand with the effectiveness of our products. Only products that are effective, thorough, and reliable contribute to the conservation of resources in the household. Our formulas are designed to combine powerful performance and sustainability—for greater value retention in everyday life.

We carefully select all ingredients and components for our products, placing great importance on the highest quality. The use of natural and biodegradable ingredients is a high priority at Dr. Beckmann. At the same time, we focus on the effectiveness of our products. Because only an effective product is also sustainable. Through passion and decades of research, we have developed many products with excellent effectiveness and performance, in which sustainability aspects play a central role.

Our laundry products are optimized in their washing performance so that they are often effective at temperatures as low as 20°C. This means they are also effective in the energy-saving or eco program of the washing machine, saving electricity and costs. Another example is the detergent and cleaning sheets with MAGIC LEAVES® technology: lightweight, pre-measured sheets that dissolve in water without leaving any residue, clean effectively and efficiently, and at the same time prevent overdosing thanks to their format. Their ease of use can help reduce environmental impact.

Our packaging is a central part of Dr. Beckmann's sustainability philosophy. We take care to adapt our packaging in terms of size, format, and material to the respective product and to reduce unnecessary packaging materials. An entire team works continuously to make our packaging as efficient as possible, to optimize it continuously, and to carefully select raw materials and other materials. To achieve the best possible value chain and an optimized packaging cycle, we rely on recyclable materials: our cardboard packaging is mainly made from recycled raw materials, and we are also continuously increasing the proportion of recycled plastic (post-consumer recycled plastic, or PCR for short) in our plastic packaging. We have set ourselves the goal of converting our plastic packaging entirely to recyclable plastic by 2030 at the latest. We already use up to 80%* less plastic for Dr. Beckmann laundry and cleaning sheets compared to conventional liquid alternatives in plastic bottles.

Plastic often has a bad reputation. But there are situations in which it is the “better” solution for us. Plastic protects our products from external influences such as moisture and heat. This is important so that we can guarantee the quality and effectiveness of our products for you, even during transport and storage. Depending on the type of packaging, plastic can be lighter and thus have a better carbon footprint than other materials, such as paper, when all aspects, including transport routes, are taken into account.

At the same time, we are constantly analyzing alternatives to plastic and examining where and to what extent we could use them in the future without compromising our products and their function.

A large part of our product portfolio consists of liquids that need to arrive at your home in optimal packaging. For us, plastic is the better choice. At Dr. Beckmann, we use plastic in a targeted manner; in other words, whenever it is the most efficient and sustainable option for us. The efficient use of plastic and recyclability are always at the forefront.

At our production sites in Egelsbach (Germany) and Bolton (UK), we have been relying on renewable energy generation through photovoltaic systems for years. The large-scale generation of solar energy helps to significantly reduce the carbon footprint of Dr. Beckmann products. Our goal is to further expand and optimize this use in order to enable climate-friendly production in the long term. In addition, we purchase 100% green electricity at our site in Egelsbach.
